About Your Jersey Girls
Lara Ziccardi
Lara Ziccard is a born-and-raised North Jersey girl currently working in audio in NYC. She attended Montclair State University, where she was a DJ, photographer, and the Program Director of WMSC 90.3 FM, the university’s radio station. It’s also where she met her co-host and bestie, Julia!
Lara is also the co-founder and co-editor of Punk Pulse Media, where she works as a photographer and writer covering live music and concert photography across the NJ/NYC tri-state area. She captures shows in a way that makes you feel like you’re right at barricade (or in the pit). You can follow her work on Instagram, @larazic
Her bagel order? Either a cinnamon-raisin with cream cheese (hot take) or a French toast bagel with bacon, cream cheese, and hot honey.
When she’s not working or recording, you can find her spinning tunes on her DJ deck, thrifting, taking photos, at a local coffee place, watching TV/YouTube/Anime, on FaceTime with Julia and/or Abigail, or buying things she absolutely doesn’t need.
Julia Slevin
Julia Slevin is a beach kid born and raised at the Jersey Shore, more specifically in Toms River, New Jersey. Currently, by day she works as a radio producer and promotions coordinator, and by night she’s behind the bar slinging drinks. Her side hustle includes freelance writing for Out In Jersey magazine!
If you think this is Julia and Lara’s first on-air rodeo, think again. What started as cohosts of The Morning Buzz, 90.3 WMSC’s flagship morning show at Montclair State, quickly turned into a full fest of Montclair shenanigans. Julia was also a DJ and served as WMSC’s Assistant Office Director, where she founded the station’s first digital magazine, WMSZine.
She’s one half of the chaos behind Jersey Girls Don’t Pump Gas, where Jersey attitude, unfiltered opinions, and a whole lot of giggles are always on the menu!
Her go-to bagel order is an everything bagel scooped (she knows, it’s controversial) with a classic BEC, add avocado, and smothered in hot sauce and hot honey. The spice of life, baby!
You can usually find her at a local coffee shop, hunting for thrift store treasures, housing a hot dog at a Yankees game, watching RuPaul’s Drag Race, or taking long drives in her Subaru Outback. Yes, she drives a Subaru. Yes, she’s a lesbian. Duh!
Abigail Smith
Abigail is an Upstate New York native (Whaaaaat? Who said that?) who made her way to Montclair State University where she met Lara and Julia the same way they met each other; WMSC 90.3 FM. While she may have technically never gotten DJ certified (but who’s checking), she co-hosted at the station and performed live multiple times with her band, Goldie, on WMSC Unplugged.
She’s currently working as an AV tech, supporting events in the Capital Region and doing what she does best: anything and everything audio. In college, Abigail served as President of Montclair’s Audio Production Club and is the founder of WIRES (Women in Recording, Engineering, and Sound), an organization dedicated to creating space for women in audio and pushing back against the all-male crews she’s more than a little tired of dealing with.
For this podcast, Abigail is the producer? Editor? Engineer? Whatever you want to call it, she’s the one making the podcast sound nice (and she hopes you agree).
When she’s not working, she’s usually baking like she’s feeding a small army, playing her guitars, or chatting on FaceTime with Lara and Julia.
Her go-to bagel order? A sesame bagel toasted, with olive pimento cream cheese and bacon (if they don’t have olive pimento, she’s already halfway out the door). Bonus points for apple juice as a drink option.
